Aunt Susan and Uncle Alef sent Amari and Asher kilts from Scotland. Amari celebrated with a little jig.

Sucking on his bottom lip seems to be the thing to do while teething.

Amari had a great time with Auntie Jessica (my cousin). In addition to all her other charms she gave Amari a big spoon to chew on.

Good-bye Big Red

We said good-bye to Big Red this week, and ate him for dinner. All in all he had a good life walking around the farm these last two years and eating lots of good food. He had lost a bunch of feathers in an encounter with a dog and did not realize this meant he could not fly. Every morning he tried to fly off the chicken coop and fell on his back but this did not stop him from trying or from being proud of his appearance as he spent the rest of the day parading around in full turkey display fashion. I will not exactly miss his constant gobbling but I am thankful for his time on the farm.

Cousin* Katrina and Greta spent some quality time with the babies who were wearing their "One Love" onsies from Uncle Alef.

* Katrina has decided she wants to be called cousin not aunt by Amari and Asher and Greta. This objection is not because she is not really their aunt (as my cousin's partner I am not sure what the proper term is) but because she prefers the term cousin instead of aunt.

Katrina encouraged Amari to look at the camera but the swing was too interesting.

Amari had lots of smiles for Steven who was here with Jen and Julian for the week.

Amari was very happy to meet his Great-Aunt Hanneke.

Anna's cousin Rania is already a pro at taking care of two children so she makes holding Amari and baby Kale look easy.

Like the rest of us Amari made an "ahhh cute baby face" when he met baby Kale.

Amari is 5 months old today and I decided to let him try some avocado. He loved it.

I originally had planned to wait longer before giving Amari any food but everyone on the farm was feeling guilty when we ate in front of him because he looked at the food so longingly and watched us eat so intently (chewing on his tongue all the while) so I decided to start giving him a taste of food. Avocado is one of the foods that none of the infant food people seem to object to starting with so it seemed like a safe bet. So far so good.

I offered the bowl so he could use his hands to eat but he just wanted to pick up the bowl and lick the avocado. That didn't work so he got frustrated

I tried to console Amari by giving him enough avocado to get it all over his face

Snuggling with Auntie Dove.

Amari is enjoying getting to know his Pepe Anton.

Amari is also excited to get to know Ginger the kitten.
